Fresh air and Some Exercise
Instead
of spending Saturday and Sunday hanging around the shopping mall
spending money, why not take a drive out to the country and get a shot
of nature and some fresh air?Talk Grandma and the kids or just make it
a romantic affair for the two of you.
You'll need a picnic basket (and the stuff that goes in it), some chairs and a table to put the food on. You can always throw a rug on the ground but a table makes things easier and picnic tables have come a long way since those rickety old square things that doubled as card tables.
The things to watch out for in a picnic table are sturdiness, portability and ease of assembly. Next comes the aesthetic value -do you like the look of it? These tables are also great for camping vacations or for just setting up in the back yard.
History of the Picnic
Picnics date back to medieval times and the outdoors feasting indulged in by the wealthy. The earliest picnics were hunting feasts, enjoyed before the hunting sport began. Tables were set up outdoors and laden with pastries, hams baked meats and fruits.
The word 'picnic' to denote outside eating however, did not come into common usage until the late 1800's. Picnics became particularly popular in the 20th century as more and more families acquired cars and could move around the countrysde with relative ease.
Interchangable Picnic Table
An interchangable picnic table is a great idea. This one becomes a garden bench in a few short seconds.
